Apple iPhone [Guide] - Jailbreak iOS 4.1

3 jailbreak tools were released to perform the jailbreak for  iOS 4.1: Limera1n then Greenpois0n, and  PwnageTool. What use, what are the functions of these tools and which devices are supported?

Limera1n

First, is the  Limera1n of hacker geohot, which was the first jailbreak tool for iOS 4.1. Available initially only on Windows, the tool is also functional under Mac OS X now!

Greenpois0n

Then is Greenpois0n developed by the Chronic Dev Team, which had been expected for several weeks before the release of Limera1n surprise, which was made available initially for Windows but is now functional on Linux and MacOS X . Initially, we recall, was to integrate the fault Greenpois0n Shatter pod2g discovery. However, following the release of Limera1n, rather than wasting a feat, the Chronic Dev Team has integrated the method in Limera1n Greenpois0n.

PwnageTool

Finally is the release of PwnageTool 4.1.2, the popular Dev Team, which has attracted attention in recent days. More comprehensive tool, but more complicated, PwnageTool can update your device with custom firmware already jailbroken, while maintaining the old version of the baseband (for those who had yet!) In order to unlock the iPhone. It also can change the startup logo of your devices (and unlike Greenpois0n Limera1n) can add Cydia sources instead of manually add your iDevices. PwnageTool is available for MacOS X only.

Summary

In short, if you do not know what tool to use and where to find them, here's a quick summary. Note that what follows applies to IOS 4.1 (and 3.2.2 for the iPad) only!

Limera1n http://www.limera1n.com/
is available. It allows the jailbreak (but not unlock!) The following devices: iPhone 3G, iPod 3G, iPad, 4 iPhone / iPod 4G. Works with Windows and MacOS X.

Greenpois0n http://www.greenpois0n.com/ is available. It allows the jailbreak and hacktivation (but not unlock!) The following devices: iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, iPod nano (4th generation), iPod nano (3rd generation), iPad. Works with Windows, MacOS X and Linux. Coming Greenpois0n with the jailbreak of the iPod Touch (second generation) and Apple TV (2nd generation).

PwnageTool is available on the blog of the Dev Team. PwnageTool will keep its old power to make the baseband unlock, but if you've already updated your device and makes the jailbreak with another tool, you will need to wait for a jailbreak iOS 4.2. PwnageTool also allows to change the boot logo on your device. It allows the jailbreak and hacktivation following devices, while retaining the old baseband of the iPhone with a custom IOS AppleTV 2G iPad (firmware 3.2.2), iPod touch, 4G, iPod touch 3G iPhone 4, iPhone 3G , iPhone 3G.

Know that if you have already done the jailbreak on your device on iOS 4.1, it is unnecessary to repeat it with another tool, except perhaps to change the boot logo with PwnageTool.

Have a good jailbreak! :)
